About Me
Some people call me Editrix Lestrange, but you can call me Jenn.
About Me:
My background - Born and raised in the Mojave Desert in Southern California, I moved to Portland in 2010 to get my master's degree; the first lesson I learned in the book publishing program was about Amazon. I concentrated my studies on editing and poetry, and my senior thesis revolved around the digitization of poetry.
My career - Former soccer referee, bankruptcy processor, jewelry sales associate, after-school tutoring center manager, and canvasser. Also former writing center consultant, technical editor, content director, managing editor, writer, community manager, chief editor, editorial director, freelancer, HR copywriter, and now, senior employee communications strategist.
My hobbies - Complimenting my cats on their stunning good looks, writing poetry, playing my violin, baking pies from scratch, reading books, live music, boots and coats, hiking, ceramics, painting, acquiring tattoos, perfecting my pie crust recipe, and exploring the Pacific Northwest.
My disposition - Introvert, INFJ, Innovator-Builder, Adaptability/Developer/Empathy/Input/Positivity. I'm straightforward but also a softy. I laugh easily. I like teams and managers who prioritize community, consistent coaching, and constructive feedback. I like knowing more about myself because it allows me to push myself and improve. I like challenges because they give me the opportunity to go above and beyond. And I love working with people who encourage me to grow.
I've been professionally writing and editing for 15 years now, and I'm still that person that likes talking about parts of speech. My career has led me to the intersection of digital and content. I love knowing who is reading what, and why, and for how long, and what they get out of it. I find fulfillment in knowing that I can tell if they prefer the longer, more lavish sentences full of sweeping adjectives and fluffy, verbose phrases. I like that I can tell if they don't. And I can shift my language (and my subject matter) accordingly. As a writer, the digital realm is what I've been waiting for since I first learned how to diagram a complex sentence. My art doubles as a science, and I treat it as such.
